Training Manuals: Research – Design – Writing

“Instructional design” – translated as the development of educational materials – is one of our most favorite areas of focus. This year, we had the opportunity to develop training manuals on social skills for large organizations. We are very happy to have contributed in such interesting projects!

The Magic of Writing Training Manuals

Beyond the design and delivery of training programs, we were also involved in two major projects focused on writing training manuals. We will share more details in upcoming articles. For now, we can briefly capture the key elements of this experience, which has been very positive.

1. Training manuals develop not only the reader, but also the creator:

This happens because extensive research is required on each topic before writing. For a single paragraph in a training manual, one may need to read dozens of pages from relevant books but also from online sources and articles. In addition, the author needs to organize the information, compare sources, select the material to be used, and communicate knowledge in a clear, simple, and concise way. And of course, it is very common for the writer to learn new things as well, even in subject areas they may have been working on for years.

2. The interactive nature of training can also be reflected in written materials:

By this, we mean that a good training manual should not be limited to presenting information but should actively engage the reader in the learning process. This is achieved through the inclusion of exercises, case studies, storytelling, and supportive tables that stimulate interest and personalize the motivation for learning.

3. Every topic sparks interest in exploring others:

In the field of social skills development, individual topics often overlap or reinforce one another. For example, communication is closely linked to collaboration and teamwork. Sales is closely connected to customer service – and all of these often complement each other. It is therefore very interesting, both for the reader and the creator, to start working on one topic and simultaneously explore another. It is also beneficial to discover the connections, correlations, and interdependencies among different social skills.

A good training manual can become the starting point of a personal development journey. We are very happy to contribute to such “magical” processes! 🙂
