This period of orientation within the company and its culture is called Induction or Onboarding. \u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>In this article, you will find <strong>answers<\/strong> to the following questions:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><em>How long does an Induction program last? <\/em><\/li>\r\n<li><em>What are the distinct phases of an Induction program? <\/em><\/li>\r\n<li><em>What do research findings say about best practices? <\/em><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Duration of an Induction Program<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 40px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, in many companies, Induction either does not exist or is very brief (e.g., one day).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, in organizations with higher levels of employee satisfaction and retention, Induction can <strong>officially last several days and, informally, several months<\/strong>. If things go smoothly, the likelihood of long-term satisfaction, high performance, and employee retention increases significantly.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phases of Induction<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 40px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are various approaches regarding the phases of an Onboarding program. Especially in recent years, where the pandemic has influenced the way we work, approaches are divided into <strong>virtual<\/strong> (when the program takes place remotely) and <strong>on-site<\/strong> (when it takes place in person). However, we can identify <strong>at least<\/strong> <strong>four distinct periods<\/strong> during a new employee\u2019s Onboarding journey:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>before the first day at the new job<\/li>\r\n<li>the first week at the new job<\/li>\r\n<li>the first month at the new job<\/li>\r\n<li>after the initial adjustment period (first quarter and beyond)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Let\u2019s look at each one in more detail:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 40px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before the First Day<\/h5>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Completion of all hiring documentation<\/li>\r\n<li>Assignment of a colleague who will welcome the new employee and accompany them on day one<\/li>\r\n<li>Scheduling meetings for the first day<\/li>\r\n<li>Design of a development plan<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 30px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">During the First Week<\/h5>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Overview of how the company operates<\/li>\r\n<li>Discussion on how the employee\u2019s role connects to the smooth functioning of the organization<\/li>\r\n<li>Initial goals and first tasks<\/li>\r\n<li>1:1 (one-on-one) meetings with managers \/ supervisors<\/li>\r\n<li>Assignment of a buddy who will support the new employee over the following months<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">In many approaches, <strong>the first day of the first week holds a special place<\/strong>.
