Let\u2019s clarify the key concepts.<\/div>\r\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n<h2><strong>The Concept of Online Learning<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 30px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Online learning is a form of distance education. It presupposes a \u201cdistance\u201d between the learner and the trainer, as well as between members of the learning group. This distance may refer to space and\/or time. There are (at least) two types of distance learning:<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Synchronous distance learning<\/strong>, where collaboration and communication between the trainer and the learning group happen real time.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Asynchronous distance learning<\/strong>, where simultaneous interaction between trainer and learners is not a requirement.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>\u00a0 Often, online learning is based on the principles of experiential learning. This adds an experiential dimension to the remote learning experience for participants, as well as interactivity between them and the trainer. Learning reaches a deeper level, and participants experience real \u201ctraining\u201d and meaningful \u201clearning.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n<h2><strong>How Does Online Learning Differ from Webinars and eLearning?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 30px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong><em>Online Learning and Webinar<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Online learning and webinars share one common feature: communication between trainers and learners takes place live and in real time. However, online learning is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetingone.com\/blog\/online-training-vs-educational-webinar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">much more<\/a> than a webinar. A webinar is usually a short presentation or lecture on a broader topic, aimed at many participants. Interaction between trainers and learners is typically limited to polling and Q&amp;A sessions. These limitations automatically restrict the depth of the learning outcome. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 30px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong><em>Online Learning and eLearning<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, online learning is very different from eLearning. In eLearning, simultaneous interaction between trainers and learners is not required. The learner simply attends a pre-designed digital course created in advance, without the possibility of interaction with the trainer. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n<h2><strong>What Is the Trend in Corporate Training?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 30px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Covid-19 pandemic created an urgent need for remote workforce training. In the business world globally, as highlighted in an article by Gloria Tam, several key factors are shaping the new model of professional learning:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>training program\u2019s customization<\/li>\r\n<li>collaborative learning<\/li>\r\n<li>post-training processes<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Therefore, the opportunity for meaningful distance learning is clear. However, it can be lost if the program design is poor, if the training provider is not properly qualified, or if a \u201ctrainer-centered\u201d style (such as lecturing) is chosen instead of adult learning methodologies. Especially in the field of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soft_skills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">soft skills<\/a>, where learning occurs through active learner engagement, the direction is clear. And that direction is online learning.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n<h2><strong>Four Checkpoints for a Successful Online Training Program<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 30px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A structured approach that makes the difference in a strong online learning program can be summarized in four steps:<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>We place special emphasis on defining appropriate learning objectives and expected outcomes, tailored to each company\u2019s and training needs.<\/li>\r\n<li>We customize the material and adapt the instructional design so that each learner experiences the learning journey they need.<\/li>\r\n<li>We emphasize collaboration among learners and interactivity within programs.<\/li>\r\n<li>We focus strongly on post-training actions, to help learners retain new knowledge and further develop their skills.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<!-- \/wp:post-content -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:spacer \/-->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\r\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Closing<\/h2>\r\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:spacer {\"height\":\"30px\"} -->\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 30px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<!-- \/wp:spacer -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>It is obvious that the earth will continue turning, even if all global distance education does not follow the principles of proper learning! It is also clear that every form of distance education, whether online learning, webinars, or eLearning (or any other), has its own value and fits different contexts.
